If you blink you'll miss Charlie's at that intersection in Battleboro. But if you do you'll miss some of the best local comfort food this side Rocky Mt. The hot dogs are the freshest you can get served on a warm soft bun every time. The coleslaw is the creamiest crunchy not soggy sweetest salad around. That goes from the potato salad too!! Hey take their time with your order and are extremely courteous. I've only gone to the drive in window but I'm sure dining in is an even better experience. Catfish platter has that crispy fish and hush puppies. The chitterlings over rice will fill you up and get the Navy beans for that down home finish!
This is comfort food, good ole southern food at its best. The fried bologna sandwich is like Mama's. The chitlins on the buffet are some of the best I've had, plenty of crushed red pepper seasoning. Delicious banana pudding for dessert.
Small down-home style breakfast and lunch place on 301 a little north of Rocky Mount. It's a pleasant throwback to the way this area used to be some 30 years ago. Cafeteria-style soul food with daily specials. Fried food is cooked to order so no soggy food. Fish can be ordered soft, medium, or hard and I suggest going with hard. The breading is flavorful and the beans are cooked with pork. You don't need to be told, you can taste it. I didn't get any of the large portions of homemade cake but every other customer did so I'm thinking they know what they're doing. Most of the customers seem to be regulars and the staff is very friendly. It's almost like eating at your neighbor's house - your neighbor who's a great cook. Strongly recommended.
